Crossville Chronicle, 16 December 1911 -- W. T HARRIS, who recently moved here from Kentucky, has been appointed Marshal by Mayor George p. Burnette. Marshal Harris seems to have in him the stuff of which a good officer is made. He busied himself to such an extent that aside from maintaining order in town he succeeded in rounding up over a dozen hogs that were running at large within the corporate limits. Some persons did not seem to enjoy the joke very much, but Leon Burnett gave vent to one of his characteristic big laughs and remarked, he got two of mine, but that is alright let him get them every hour of the day if 17dont keep them up,

Crossville Chronicle, 12 February 1913 -- Marshal Harris was home from Spring City for a brief visit and was accompanied by Mrs., Harris on his return. They are to move to Spring City within the next few weeks,

Crossville Chronicle, Thursday October 25, 1928 --WILLIAM T HARRIS FOUND DEAD NEAR ROAD CROSSING:  Former city marshal killed in Chattanooga while acting as a traffic officer.  Thursday morning (Thursday, October 18, 1928) of last week at 2:10 o'clock, William T. Harris, age 59, father of Mrs. Ben H. West, was found dead near a railroad crossing in Chattanooga, where he was acting as traffic officer.  He had been acting as traffic officer for 14 years and indications are that he was killed by a passenger train that left the Union Station at 2:00 a.m., and he cleared it, but from the mangled condition of his body and the fact when struck the force of the blow threw his watch and gun from his pocket, and the further fact that his watch was stopped at 2:10 and is so badly damaged that it  has run none since, leads to the conclusion that by some means the passenger train, a freight train, reached the crossing and as no clearance signal was given, the train stopped and the train men found the body.  Both legs were broken at the ankles, the skull was fractured from near the left eye, while the body showed other bruises.---The remains were interred Friday.  He leaves a wife and 10 children, 7 daughters and 3 sons, all of whom were present at the funeral, except two sons who live in the west and could not get there in time. ---Some 12 or more years ago, the deceased acted as city marshal in Crossville.  He moved his family from here to Chattanooga, where they have resided since.  He visited his daughter, Mrs. West, here about three weeks before the accident.
